Sarah Whiteside, PT, DPT, CIYT

is a New York State licensed Physical Therapist, with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Sarah has over 9 years experience focused on orthopedic and manual therapy.

After graduating, Sarah continued to pursue manual therapy skills, working in several private orthopedic outpatient practices. Prior to this, she gained experience in musculoskeletal and acute rehabilitation through affiliations at Long island College Hospital and Maimonades Hospital.

She has received advanced training in functional manual therapy from the Institute of Physical Arts (IPA) and is working towards advanced certification as a Certified Functional Manual Therapist (CFMT). She continues her professional education in movement reeducation and manual therapy through Maitland joint mobilization techniques, Myofascial Release, A.R.T. Sarah is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor (CIYT) and has been teaching yoga since 1995. She earned her B.A. from University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she started her journey in the practice of yoga almost 30 years ago. She got her start teaching at Methodist Hospital in Park Slope where she worked in their Yoga and Art Therapy program for 2 years. Her yoga expertise informs and enhances her ability to help physical therapy patients gain the strength, balance, flexibility, and awareness that are central to lifelong activity and well-being, beyond recovering from injury.

Sarah was inspired to become a physical therapist through working with her yoga students, as well as through many sports played over the years (lacrosse, field hockey, tennis, skiing, mountain biking).

Sarah keeps active and is often biking or cross country skiing in Prospect Park. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, practicing yoga and Pilates, and learning to play the mandolin.
